Scouting for deals
You’ll see a lot of supposed discounts on Amazon during Prime Day, but that’s true no matter what day you log onto the world’s largest online retailer. So how do you tell a great deal from a small price cut, or even a scam?
First, know what you’re looking to buy before you buy it. Don’t just dive into the pile of Prime Day discounts with the hopes of stumbling upon something you didn’t know you needed. You might get lucky, but in most cases you’ll just end up buying something you didn’t really need anyway.
Second, check price histories using tools like CamelCamelCamel, which show you how low the sale price is compared to the prices from months or even years past. This is the best way to see exactly how much money you’re really saving.
Lastly, remember that some products, like video game consoles and low-supply/high-demand tech toys, probably aren’t going to offer the biggest discounts around. They’ll be saving most of their best offers for the shopping season later this year, or just continue selling at MSRP because they can.
