If you’ve got an iPhone in your pocket you probably have a new software update waiting for you. That is, unless you already updated, in which case we can skip the pleasantries and get straight to the good stuff. It’s iOS 10.3, and it’s packed with features that will make your mobile experience just a little bit better. Most of the new changes are things you won’t ever see, like behind-the-scenes improvements to how your iPhone or iPad works, making it faster and more secure, but there are still a few really awesome usability improvements that you should know about.

Find My AirPods

If you’re one of the big-time Apple fans that dove head first into the company’s vision of a wireless headphone future by picking up a pair of the awesome (but expensive) AirPods, you’ll be so, so happy to hear that there’s now a handy tool for finding them! Apple upgraded the Find My iPhone app, which uses a variety of methods to locate a misplaced iPhone, to include an AirPod finder, too. Now you never have to worry about losing track of the pricey little gadgets, and your days of digging through the couch cushions or snooping under the seat in your car can be left behind.

More speed, and space!

Ever feel like you just don’t have enough room on your phone? It’s a problem we’ve all been dealing with for a very long time, and Apple just took a pretty big step in helping to solve it. Apple updated its iPhone storage format, which uses the new Apple File System, or APFS for short. You don’t need to know how it works, just know that it can store your stuff using slightly less space than the old way, which means that depending on how much stuff you have on your phone, you could see a pretty big bump in free space. On top of all that, it’s actually better optimized than the old storage format, which means you might even notice a speed boost as well.

Security, simplified

Smartphone security is both very serious and totally confusing for almost everyone. Up until now, the iPhone didn’t do a great job of putting security features in obvious places, which means lots of Googling to find the right menus to keep your privacy in check. With iOS 10.3, a new user security section has been placed right in the Settings menu in the newly cleaned-up Apple ID section, so you don’t have to dive through a half dozen screens just to find all the tools that keep you safe. Finally! You’ll also easily be able to change App Store settings, family sharing, payment information, and iCloud preferences without venturing to a bunch of different menus.
