What Apple says we should do about our privacy and security right now:

  Jennifer Jolly · January 28, 2021

Here’s are some tips Apple shared with us around Data Privacy Day (1/28/21):

Review the many built-in privacy and security features on your iPhone that help keep your personal information safe:

  • Set a strong passcode to unlock your device.
  • Use Face ID or Touch ID for a secure and convenient way to unlock your iPhone, authorize purchases and payments, and sign in to many third-party apps.
  • Turn on Find My to locate your iPhone if it’s lost or stolen.
  • Use Sign in with Apple to limit the information shared about you when you log in to apps and websites.
  • Tap the privacy icon in Safari to view a Privacy Report that shows you all the cross-site trackers that are being blocked by Intelligent Tracking Prevention.
  • Control the app data and location information you share with apps.
  • Review the privacy practices of an app on the App Store before you download it to understand what data is collected.

These reminders come on the same day Apple Apple released an update for iOS 14 on both iPhones and iPads to fix a potential security flaw the tech giant says “may have been actively exploited.”

The company says details of the flaws were reported by an anonymous researcher, according to a support page detailing the update.

“For our customers’ protection, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available,” said Apple.

The company said additional details will be available soon.

To update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 14.4, users can go to Settings, General then Software Update.

Among some of the other changes introduced with iOS 14.4: the ability for phones to recognize smaller QR codes, and fixes to the keyboard, typing and the Fitness widget.
